Manhattan-Bobst Library-First Time

Is this your first time at the Manhattan site — Bobst Library? Read on!

In case you’re taking your first class here at Bobst, please look at www.nyu.edu for directions to Bobst and for information about subways, parking, etc. On your first visit, once inside the library, go to the far LEFT to the privileges desk. If you have an LIU ID already, just show the person there the ID and tell him/her that you are a Palmer student and you need the current semester sticker. They will refer to a roster of enrolled students and they’ll put the sticker right on your ID. If you don’t have an ID, they still have your name and they’ll give you a Bobst pass. This pass is good for the semester, however you will also need to show a picture ID. When you have time, you can go to the circulation desk to get a bar code that will allow you to take out books from Bobst.

Once you’re done there, go to the guard at the entry desk, show him/her your pass, and enter. Most of our classes are held in the Avery Fisher Center on the second floor of Bobst. Once off the elevator on the second floor, you will find the Avery Fisher Center (AFC) in the middle of the second floor, between the elevator banks. This is a quiet study area used for viewing films and so on, but there are two classrooms there that we use. To the far left is the EAST room, just past the stairwell, and in the far right corner is WEST. Classrooms will be posted to kiosk and to this page as we get close to the start of the semester. If you have trouble finding either EAST or WEST rooms, someone at the desk in Avery will be glad to help you. The PC rooms are in the computer center on the B level, one floor below the lobby.

If you’re driving to the city, the Thompson Street Garage at 221 Thompson St. (between 3rd St. and Bleecker St.; phone number 212.677.8741; will discount parking for students and faculty coming to Palmer Manhattan for class. To receive the discount, you must present them with a parking receipt stamped by someone at either the NYU Welcome Center at 50 W. 4th St. (just east of Bobst Library) or the NYU Department of Public Safety at 14 Washington Place, just off University Place. The Welcome Center closes at 5 during the week and is open from 10 – 4 on weekends; the Department of Public Safety is open at all times.

One final note— if you haven’t signed up for kiosk, the listserv, please do! We all depend upon you reading our mail and if you don’t, you could miss something important. And if the email says “save this email” in the subject, please do! You’ll need the information at some point down the line, believe me! To join, go to https://lists-1.liu.edu/mailman/listinfo/cwp-kiosk.

We hope you have a great experience here at Palmer and that you’ll enjoy all of your classes this semester and beyond. We all look forward to working with you!
