Dual Degree Program Information

Following is information about academic requirements, financial aid and graduation for current dual degree students. If you are not currently enrolled in the program, please see The Dual Degree with NYU.

The Program 

LIU’s MSLIS — 28 credits

Required Palmer Courses:

LIS 510 Introduction to Library Science

LIS 511 Information Sources and Services

LIS 512 Knowledge Organization

LIS 514 Research Methods (Note: LIS 514 may be waived if your NYU program offers a similar course. This frees you up to take another elective. Students must send appeal to Director, Palmer School, LIU Post)

LIS 516 Collection Development (3 credits)

LIS 606 Information Literacy and Library Instruction (3 credits)

LIS 785: The Mentoring Program  (4 credits)

Electives (2 courses = 6 credits)

Total Palmer credits: 28

NYU’s MA/MS — 24+ credits

Transferring Credits from NYU and LIU to complete the dual degree

Palmer accepts 8 GSAS or Steinhardt credits (please note: this is the maximum number of transfer credits allowed by Palmer).

The transfer of credits can take place at any time, so no need to wait until the last minute. Credits will not appear on the LIU Palmer transcript until you have earned at least 15 Palmer credits.

The NYU credits are the only ones that can be transferred to Palmer.

Students must:

GSAS accepts 9 Palmer credits. Students must:

Request transfer of credit form from NYU department advisor

 Graduation Information: File separately to graduate from each individual master’s program
