For students finishing up in the summer, please read the following from the Office of the Registrar:
Students who are completing their degree requirements during the summer are permitted to walk in the May Commencement ceremony if they would like to.
All MSLIS graduates of the Palmer School qualify for New York public librarian certification. Please read carefully the information related to the public librarian certification requirements (as of 1/15) found here: New York State Public Librarian Certification Process.
- Student enrolls in their final courses for the summer
- Student applies (on line) for summer 2016 degree
- Student gets a yellow Commencement Authorization card from their advisor; advisor’s signature verifies that they are, in fact, enrolled in their final courses.
- Beginning in March, this card is brought to the bookstore and enables the student to get a Commencement invitation and purchase their cap/gown.
The Commencement Day ceremonies are held in May. Details on commencement day ceremonies are here.
Manhattan students who wish to participate in the commencement exercises at the Post campus should complete this form and email it to sm722@bncollege. You can have the cap and gown shipped directly to you (for an additional $10) or stored at the bookstore on the Post campus for pick-up on the day of the ceremony. Please choose either option on the form. Note that in with the cap and gown set you will find a yellow card that you will need to bring to the ceremony. This will be used to announce your name as you walk on the stage. It is important for you to fill it out and bring it with you to the ceremony. The bookstore at Post is open from 8 – 5 on commencement day.
Please note that although you participate in the ceremony (and your names will be read on stage), your names will not appear in the Commencement program.
If you have applied for graduation before but for whatever reason did not graduate, you must re-file an application.
Remember that if you are transferring in any credits from another school, we will need official transcripts. They should be addressed to Academic Advisor, c/o Erin Reilly, The Palmer School, LIU Post, 720 Northern Blvd, Brookville, NY 11548.
