Applying for Graduation / Commencement

PLEASE NOTE: The deadline for applying online for Dec. graduation (Jan. 2016 conferral) has passed. Please complete this application and scan it to or fax it to 212 995 4072. Check off MS for the Palmer degree. If you are also getting the Archives Certificate of Advanced Study, do the form a second time and check off CAS. Be sure to send both forms!

Manhattan students who wish to participate in the commencement exercises at the Post campus please complete this form and email it to sm722@bncollege. You can have the cap and gown shipped directly to you (for an additional $10) or stored at the bookstore on the Post campus for pick-up on the day of the ceremony. Please choose either option on the form. Note that in with the cap and gown set you will find a yellow card that you will need to bring to the ceremony. This will be used to announce your name as you walk on the stage. It is important for you to fill it out and bring it with you to the ceremony.The bookstore at Post is open from 8 – 5 on commencement day.

For students finishing up in the summer, please read the following from the Office of the Registrar:
Students who are completing their degree requirements during the summer are permitted to walk in the May Commencement ceremony if they would like to.

  1. Student enrolls in their final courses for the summer
  2. Student applies (on line) for summer 2015 degree
  3. Student gets a yellow Commencement Authorization card from you (their advisor); your signature verifies that they are, in fact, enrolled in their final courses.
  4. Beginning March 23rd, this card is brought to the bookstore and enables the student to get a Commencement invitation and purchase their cap/gown.

Students should be reminded that although they participate in the ceremony (and their names will be read on stage), their names will not appear in the Commencement program.

  • Degree Progress/Graduation
  • Apply for Graduation

If you have applied for graduation before but for whatever reason did not graduate, you must re-file an application.

All MSLIS graduates of the Palmer School qualify for New York public librarian certification.  Please read carefully the information related to the new (as of Jan. 2015) public librarian certification requirements found here: Public Librarian Certificate as of 2015

Archives Certificate: Students who are applying for the certificate of advanced study in archives and records management must complete a paper application.  The application and directions for faxing or mailing it can be found at: Print the pdf and check off CAS (Certificate of Advanced Study) for that certificate. The form may also be faxed to the attention of Christine Prete at 516 299 4168.

Remember that if you are transferring in any credits from another school, we will need official transcripts. They should  be addressed to Christine Prete, The Palmer School, LIU Post, 720 Northern Blvd, Brookville, NY 11548.
