NYS Public LIbrarian Certification Process
For students finishing up in the summer, please read the following from the Office of the Registrar:
Students who are completing their degree requirements during the summer are permitted to walk in the May Commencement ceremony if they would like to.
All MSLIS graduates of the Palmer School qualify for New York public librarian certification. Please read carefully the information related to the public librarian certification requirements (as of 1/15) found here: New York State Public Librarian Certification Process.
- Student enrolls in their final courses for the summer
- Student applies (on line) for summer 2016 degree
- Student gets a green Commencement Authorization card from their advisor; advisor’s signature verifies that they are, in fact, enrolled in their final courses. In addition, Enrollment Services must confirm that you do not have any outstanding balance.
- Beginning in March, this card is brought to the bookstore and enables the student to get a Commencement invitation and purchase their cap/gown.
Commencement Ceremonies and Ordering Regalia
The Commencement Day ceremonies are held in May. Details on commencement day ceremonies are here.
If you are a September 2015, January 2016 or May 2016 graduate, finishing your degree in the summer, or a student earning a September 2016 degree, you can participate in the May Commencement Ceremonies.
Once you have filed for graduation, you can purchase your cap & gown online. Please note that if you have not filed for graduation for May, you won’t be able to order the cap and gown until you do so.
Here’s how to purchase: http://www.liu.edu/CWPost/Commencement/Cap-Gown
MSLIS: Lemon Yellow
PhD: Dark blue
**PhD Students, please check with the bookstore for any additional regalia that has to be ordered**
Ordering online only reserves your academic attire. The attire is purchased and picked up at the grad fair being held on April 20 & 21 at the bookstore. (Manhattan students see below.)
The deadline for ordering your academic attire online is Friday, March 25, 2016.
For more information: http://www.liu.edu/CWPost/Commencement/Cap-Gown
Note that in with the cap and gown set you will find a yellow card that you will need to bring to the ceremony. This will be used to announce your name as you walk on the stage. It is important for you to fill it out and bring it with you to the ceremony.
If you are a Manhattan student and you are participating in commencement, you can pick up your cap and gown on commencement day at the LIU Post bookstore. They have also offered to ship your regalia to you for a fee of $7.50. Gowns would ship (after review from Enrollment Services confirming your status) on April 25. If need be, you can contact the store manager for assistance. His information is here:
